Traditional New Year's Cake Cutting
- AUTh Student Club
The “Yannis Mantakas” choir and the Friends of the “Yannis Mantakas” Choir Association welcomed 2025 with the traditional cutting of the New Year's cake. At the simple celebration, which took place in the choir's rehearsal room, active members of the choir, as well as members of the Friends Association, enjoyed homemade delicacies and fine sweets, accompanied by music and dancing. As every year, the traditional exchange of gifts took place. The Association's Vasilopita, kindly sponsored again this year by Mrs. Eleni Mantaka, was cut by our conductor, Erifili Damianou. For the second consecutive year, the coin fell to the alto section, while the lucky winner of the individual Vasilopita was Petros Stefanakis, a student at the School of Music of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, who received a copy of Ernst Hans Gombrich's book "The Story of Art." We look forward to seeing you again next year!

First-years students' Reception
- Alexandrio Melathron
First-year students at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki enjoyed a very pleasant experience this year at the welcome event organized by the University's Volunteer and Student Activities Coordination Office. For the first time, the welcome event was held outside the university campus, at the nearby Palais des Sports. First-year students had the opportunity to learn about all the Schools of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as the student groups that were invited to participate and present their work. The "Yannis Mantakas" choir was well represented, both during the official event inside the stadium by students of the School of Music, who organized a short but exciting karaoke session, and outside at its information booth, where a small group of choir members, together with our conductor, Erifili Damianou, ensured that first-year students were fully informed about the existence and activities of our choir.

Celebration of October 26, 2025
- AUTh Ceremony Hall
The most important anniversary for the city of Thessaloniki is the triple celebration of the feast of our city's patron saint, St. Demetrius, the liberation of Thessaloniki in 1912, and the anniversary of the historic "NO" and the Epic of '40. In 2025, the celebration also included the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hadjidakis. On the occasion of these multiple anniversaries, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki organized a splendid ceremony attended by the Presidents of the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Cyprus. It should be noted that, for the first time, the day's celebratory speech was not delivered by a member of the Aristotle University faculty, but by His Excellency Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus. The "Yannis Mantakas" choir opened the ceremony by singing the Apolytikion of Saint Demetrius, arranged by M. Adamis. We then collaborated with the Aristotle University Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vladimiros Symeonidis, performing excerpts from Mikis Theodorakis' "Spiritual March" with soloists Mela Gerofoti and Apostolos Sotiroudis.

The highlight of our trip to Vienna was our concert in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. In this magnificent hall, where the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert is broadcast every year, the “Yannis Mantakas” choir took to the stage and sang two Greek songs, "With the star-lantern" by Mikis Theodorakis, arranged by Panagis Barbatis, and "The Rose" by Manos Hadjidakis, arranged by Kostas Tsougras. It then joined 1,000 other choristers from around the world in performing Franz Schubert's last “Mass in E flat major”.
